The Legendary Buffalo Chip is already planning out its
schedule for Sturgis 2010, announcing that ZZ Top will
be one of the headliners at next year's rally.
After providing rally-goers a world-renowned array of musical
acts and Michael Lichter’s unparalleled motorcycles as art exhibit
during
Rally Week 2009, the Legendary Buffalo Chip is already kicking
it into overdrive to prepare for next year’s rally. Locked, loaded
and ready to grace the Chip’s infamous main amphitheatre stage is
rock and roll luminary, ZZ Top. That little ol’ band from Texas is
sure to deliver the familiar and intricate riffs that landed them in
the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and in the hearts of fans the world
over. The notoriously bearded blues-rock power trio will be
celebrating their 40th Anniversary next year and is looking forward
to ringing in this musical achievement with a rowdy crowd of
Chipsters.
“We’re excited to have ZZ Top back at the Chip next year,â€
explains Buffalo Chip owner, Rod Woodruff. “2010 is a milestone
year- ZZ Top will be celebrating their 40th and Sturgis will be
celebrating its 70th. We’re going to be bringing a number of top
national acts next summer in addition to ZZ Top as well. It’s
going to be an incredible celebration.â€
Rally Week 2009 also witnessed the unveiling of the brand new 6,500
square foot Lichter Exhibition Hall at the Legendary Buffalo Chip
and Michael Lichter’s 9th Annual Motorcycles as Art Exhibit. The
exhibit entitled ‘Rebel Rousers, Motorcycle Icons that Inspire Us
to Ride’ showcased the most important collection of motorcycles
and art to ever grace Sturgis and was viewed by thousands of guests,
including a myriad of high-profile and celebrity motorcycle
enthusiasts. Pat Simmons had this to say regarding Lichter’s Rebel
Rousers Exhibit, “When I walked through the door of the Lichter
Exhibition Hall into the "Rebel Rousers" exhibit, I was transported
back to that moment in time, when I first realized that I had to
have a motorcycle. As soon as I started riding, I knew this would be
a part of my life that I would never let go of. All the reasons for
my love of the sport, were gathered together in that room; Beautiful
amazing machinery, esoteric memorabilia from the early years through
the 40s, 50s, 60s, and 70s, rock 'n roll music, and the icons who
inspired us to ride, and being there with friends and enthusiasts
who, like me, were feeling those same emotions. I kept thinking, 'It
just doesn't get much better than this! Thanks Michael.'â€
celebration. It’s going to be a wild ride!

The Sturgis Rallyy
Sturgis Motorcycle Rally
The Sturgis Biker Rally is a event for
all motorcycle enthusiast
The Bikers event - biker rally is held annually in
Sturgis, South Dakota each first full week of August.
and the next rally is The 70th Anniversary Sturgis Rally
2010.
It was founded on August 14, 1938 by the Jackpine
Gypsies Motorcycle Club who still own and operate the
tracks, hillclimb, and field areas that the rally is
concentrated around. The first rally lasted two days and
was focused on racing and stunts.
The founder is generally considered to be Clarence
"Pappy" Hoel who is still honored in various ways by the
crowd at Sturgis.
The main focus of a motorcycle rally was originally
racing and stunts. This could include half mile track
racing (the first year in Sturgis, there were 19
participants), board wall crashes (intentional), ramp
jumps and head on collisions with automobiles...
The Sturgis Rally has been held every year, with
exceptions during World War II.
In modern times, there has been a revitalization of
motorcycling and a new group of fans that are interested
in the old rallies. This has led to huge attendance
numbers for classic rallies such as Sturgis. Attendance
was estimated at 559,951 in 2007, and 559,2987 in 2008.
This rivals the resident population of the entire state
-- 754,899 in 2000.
